December 21st, 2012
The End of the Mayan Calendar
A perspective of time
A time for changes and shifts
Not for the World to End!

Tomorrow is the day we have all been waiting for. Like the quote from the Hopi Tribe, "We are the one's we have been waiting for."

To help guide you through the hype to the truth, I have compiled a Positive Media Guide to December 21st 2012.

It starts of with the newly release Positive Music Video Countdown show from Conscious Content TV, The Positive Point.

The
 Kellee Maize Musical Perspective

Kellee Maize is an amazing Conscious Female rapper with a great perspective on the Mayan time of Transformation. This read will help calm any fear!

Kellee Maize's blog post on The Huffington Post "Dec. 21 Mayan Prophecy: A Firsthand Report From the Mayan Lands With Tips for Transformation!"

The Party Perspective

Party like it's the end of the world, but its not the End!
The mainstream music scene's perspective on December 21st, 2012 is that you should party, dance and live like it's the end of the world. To do those things you've always been wanting to do. To live for today and seise the day. But know that it's actually not the end. And that is a perspective I share. We are in a time to make our dreams come true. Truly and Finally! I hope these videos inspire you in your own personal transition, shift, and frequency upgrade.

Jay Sean - 2012 (It Ain't The End)
Britney Spears - Till The World Ends
R.E.M. - It's the End of the World, as we know it and I feel fine.

Finding Joe

*This is from a guest post, Matthew Welsh of Spiritual Media Blog*

"We must be willing to get rid of the life that we've
planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us."

- Josepeh Campbell

"Finding Joe" is a documentary that interviews
visionaries from a wide variety of fields on how Joseph
Campbell's teachings on 'following your bliss' and
'The Hero's Journey' can be applied to our everyday life,
including our challenges and personal dragons.

While most inspirational documentaries focus on how good
life can be if you get everything you want; "Finding Joe"
stands out because it interviews real life people ranging from
Deepak Chopra, Tony Hawk, to Rashida Jones about how their
struggles, failures, and personal dragons were necessary to
help them develop the capabilities to truly follow their bliss.

According to the film, everybody receives some sort of
mysterious call to adventure or to awaken to a life previously
unknown. Not everybody answers this call. However, those that
do and then choose to act on this call embark on what Campbell
and the film describe as 'The Hero's Journey.'

As the documentary portrays in vivid detail from popular
movies, enactments of classic tales by a group of sweet and
motley group of kids, and first hand accounts from real people
'The Hero's Journey' is filled with a series of tests, trials,
or ordeals a person must go through to begin and complete a
transformation. Often a person will fail one or more of these
tests. But, if the hero remains steadfast and open to
unexpected help along the way, he or she will emerge victorious.

For example, Campbell summarizes this process in
"The Hero with a Thousand Faces" when he writes:

"A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a
region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there
encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back
from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons
on his fellow man."

I had the chance to interview the filmmaker for "Finding
Joe", Patrick Solomon, and asked him what sort of dragons he
faced in his personal journey. His answer was very insightful
and eye-opening:

"On my own personal journey, there are a lot of
challenges in making a movie. I went down this road when I
first started this movie. And I shot a bunch of things.
I went to Bali. I went to Jerusalem. I shot just a ton of film
and interviewed a bunch of people and when I started to put
that together it wasn't working.

So, at some point, I had to admit that this wasn't
going to work and we got to take another path. But, that to
me was a dragon. That was months and months of work and
thousands and thousands of dollars that I kind of had to let
go of and come to grips with the truth that that wasn't going
to work. And, that was a wrestling match and that took months
to come to the point of saying 'okay man this isn't going to
work, you gotta let that go.' And, I'm glad I did because the
movie would be quite different had I hung onto that."

The rest of our conversation focuses on why he made
"Finding Joe" in addition to some straightforward advice for
other filmmakers who are trying to make an inspirational or
transformational film.

You can listen to and download an MP3 of our entire 9 minute

interview by visiting:

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=EKHdV&m=KsFC1LzHGh6qt5&b=2cnquFSc6HmZ4GNIpfIgeA

Finding Joe is truly a transformational film that will
help anyone who is wrestling with a personal dragon right now,
but knows in their heart that they are on path. Or as Joseph
Campbell said,

"Follow your bliss and the Universe will open doors where
there were only walls."

Pink Ribbons Inc.

It's now the month of October. So that means besides seeing the slightly offensive witches smacked against a tree and other annoying Halloween decorations, at the check out stand I've been asked "Would you like to round up to support breast cancer?" I mostly say no, and here is why you should too.

Don't get me wrong I love pink, women's solidarity, activism and health. But what I don't like is all the Pink Washing that is associated with this month. If you have heard of the term Green Washing where companies like BP have commercials of children running through fields to reflect sustainability. Well Pink Washing is that equivalent in the Pink Ribbon industry. I recently found the film Pink Ribbons Inc. that showcases all the misconceptions behind the Pink campaigns. From the overly optimistic outlook, to the profit of pink product promotions, right down to the root of environmental factors that are linked to causing cancers. It is an insightful and informative documentary that all should watch during the month of October.

I have known for a while the harmful effects of day to day products. Thank god for my activist speech teacher in college who first started to open my bubble to these kinds of awareness. Since then I have been looking at many alternatives. Once of which is alternative personal care products. A section that the documentary touches on mid way through, which I feel is the most important as it a way to prevent. And since "Only 3-5% of all money raised for Breast Cancer Research goes to prevention," (Quoting the documentary) you may want to pay attention.

I found out that the aluminum in deodorant is actually linked to cancer. When women shave there arm pits in the shower and immediately get out and put this toxic deodorant on, it has a fresh way into the skin and possibly the blood stream. Not only that but many of the conventional cosmetics have lead, formaldehyde and petroleum in the products which all link to cancer. Check out the website Skin Deep to see safety reviews on personal care products.
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep

Skin Deep
This documentary points out the hypocrisies of companies promoting and donating to cure cancer when their products are a cause of it. So before you give your 50 cents to the cashier, check what charity your money is going to and how they are spending it. Also find out if the researchers are connected and sharing their findings with others and sampling different populations. Check what companies are campaigning to donate if their integraty doesn't line up to the ideals they are pushing, then let them know. An email campaign of people who did just that was able to get yo-plait to take the RBGH (which is a growth hormone they feed the cows that is linked to cancer), out of their yogurt.

What's not spoken about in the documentary is another amazing prevention aspect that is to not only a way to clean up your environment and what is goes into your body but also a way to clean up your emotions. Taking a look at the spiritual aspect is worth while. Spiritual science is gaining popularity and legitimacy. The frequency/ energy of pent up, unresolved emotions are linked to disease/ DIS EASE. To ease your energy there are many energetic techniques such as EFT Emotional Freedom Technique, sound healing, Reiki Energy, and prayer with which can help you to look at and forgive these unresolved emotions. I am a practitioner of these modalities and will be giving discounted session for October for people who have read this blog. If you or someone you know would benefit from reading this blog please share it with them! Check out my healing site and contact me to book a session.

I AM: Movie Review

I AM: Movie Review
From director of Ace Ventura Pet Detective, Liar, Liar, and Bruce Almighty, Tom Shaydac tells his story of having it all and letting go it all go after a near death experience brings him to the realization that his life wasn’t contributing to the world in the way he wanted.

In this film he sets out to ask, “What’s wrong with our world and what can we do about it. Most importantly what can we do about it?” And receive the answers from today’s top insightful thinkers.

Well here’s what’s wrong.

“We tell ourselves stories in order to live. Science is just a story.” – Lynne McTaggart, author of The Field.

The film touches on other ways in which things are wrong with our world by way of our western societal themes of Separation and Competition.

We are born to be a Consumer.

“You’re job is not to be a citizen but a consumer.”

“Wealth and happiness are synonyms.” – Chris Jordan, photographer.

Loneliness

“Materialism is a pathway to happiness has made us loose our communal tendencies.” – Dacher Keltner, Professor of Psychology, UC Berkeley.

Here is what’s right.

Democracy within Nature

“We are hard wired for a compassionate response for the trouble of others.” – Marc Ian Barasch, Author of “Field Notes on the Compassionate Life.”

Our Heart is Smart.

The new scientific story is that we really are physiologically interconnected.

What can we do about it?

LOVE

Love is the basic answer presented in the film with some role model examples of Martin Luthar King, Gandhi and Mother Teresa. Of course public peace assemblies against the “machine” is part of what we can do about it but it has to be more than that. This is always my issue with these documentaries, is that they never really posse new actionable alternatives. I think the better question that should have been posed in this film is “How do we make real change now?” Like changing the system from within. Changing what we have and creating a new system. Then next best question is what does that look like and how do we create that? The questions shouldn’t stop and should continually be answered through experimentation. Not only do we need to assemble in public peaceful and love but also we have to combine that with a new next level action. So I ask you, what is that? What can we do now that’s new to make that real change we need now?

Wanderlust: The Film

Wanderlust

As Wanderlust Yoga Festival is happening right now in Colorado and Wanderlust at Tahoe is coming up I decided to check out the movie of the same name.

Wanderlust Is so my life. Now most spiritually enlightened women would say that about the film Eat Pray Love. Nope not me.

Set inside a comedic love story of a couple trying to find their place in the world is a true account of hippie life and my life for that matter. I am in a transition to merge my two worlds into one that is right for me. One being the conventional society I was brought up in and the alternative community I have come to know.

This is what we see the main characters go through in this film. Linda played by Jennifer Aniston and George played by Paul Rudd, are a couple who move into an expensive studio apartment in a great neighborhood in NYC even though they can’t afford it.

Who hasn’t done that?

Only to have George loose his job because the company was seized by the FBI and Linda’s latest creative career choice fell through. Linda switched to being a documentary filmmaker after trying her hand at jewelry designing and illustrating children’s books.

Which basically sums up my career path.

They end up traveling to Atlanta Georgia to live with George’s brother. Well you can pretty much guess how that goes as who can live with family for too long after being on your own? So they stumble upon the Elysium Community where dreams are dispensed daily and you are encouraged to bring your own container. What is Elysium like?

It’s a place I know all too well . . .

Where communes are called intentional communities.
I’ve lived on one before, for two weeks.

Where clapping is too violent so they rub their fingers.
I’ve been to house concerts where the audience rubs their hands together like they are trying to make fire with invisible sticks, after each song.

Where women give birth unassisted and make soup out of their placentas.
There was a frozen placenta in my house for a month after my roommate gave birth in her room.

Where truth circles are called as a form of therapy to release issues while under the influence of ayahuasca.
I know of a community that does this regularly.

Where you have to sneak off property to eat meat because it’s not allowed in the house. I have done that for a cheese burrito because I lived in an apartment where being Vegan was a requirement.

Now this isn’t to say that these ways of living aren't wonderful or something you should do without. For the most part I agree with spiritual hippie ways of being. Yet at the same time I have seen the down falls as well. Where can we meet in the middle?

The conclusion of this film shows a brief glimpse into the worlds I am already starting to merge, that of conscious business. Spoiler alert. Not like there is anything big to reveal about this movie that I already haven’t. In the end George and Linda live away from Elysium yet they incorporate the elements they like into their lives. They create a publishing company that prints the stories of their friends. Giving a voice and a platform to the gems of the alternative community while integrating their ideals into the mainstream society.

My motto exactly!

2012 Time for Change: A Super Solution Based Film

2012 Time for Change:
A Super Solution Based Film

After watching the trailer for 2012 Time for Change, I was a little scared there would be too much of an emphasis on painting the picture of the problem with what’s wrong in the world today. You know the doom and gloom parts of what we will be facing if we keep headed down the road of environmental destruction, ya de ya. Though that is true, I am really tired of viewing films that continue to focus on the problems instead of the solutions.

Thankfully, 2012 Time for Change is not one of those films.

The film is told through Daniel Pinchbeck personal story of his conscious evolution. Creating a casual style of interview, story and filming techniques. Beware that most of the interviews were shot hand held, giving a shaky feel. Not to be view up close if at all possible.

As far as the story line, it is definitely for right-brained people as the connections flow and interweave together. Which may be hard to follow for someone who is left-brain oriented and not familiar with any of these subjects. It could be a bit of a psychedelic experience just to watch the film. Heck I even know about these entire subjects and it still blows my circuits as I watch this film. For me that is mostly because all the solutions are presented in the film. It introduces subjects and solutions such as, psychedelics, shamanism, permiculture, intelligence of spirituality, mycelium networks, meditation, yoga, alternative architecture, science of psychic phenomena, and cooperative money systems.

The subjects are tied in through cute cartoon images that give your brain a rest.

Daniel Pinchbeck asks Dean Radin, Ph.D. Senior Scientist, Institute of Noetic Sciences,

“What do you think of the whole 2012 phenomenon?”

“I think that if a lot of people are lead to expect that something horrendous is going to occur it’s much more likely to occur. It doesn’t mean that it will. But it is much more likely. Part of what we can do is social engineering. To get people to look at the positive side of big transformational changes.”

- Dean Radin, Ph.D. Senior Scientist, Institute of Noetic Sciences.

As a bonus a few celebrities are featured speaking on their awakening experiences, such as Sting.

“I’ve done ashtanga yoga for quite some time and at the end of an ashtanga session, you do enter an alpha state. For me it is not as profound as the Ayahuasca experience. Nonetheless I can see how by extension you just keep doing that and you can get to the same place. Same way you can do by fasting or meditation. We are all going into the same place in the brain where we can access the eternal, and that is really the goal” - Sting

This is the one piece I agree on within the subject of psychedelics, which seems to be one of the main solutions for Pinchbeck, as it comes up in the begging of the film. Though I do not encourage repetitive drug use to reach a state of enlightened consciousness, there is something to say for these experiences. That is if taken under the right direction within sacred ceremonial circumstances to be used as a real gateway to the hyper dimensional spirit world, then it may be ok.

See sometimes people especially males need a little help reaching states of direct communion (communication) with God. Females tend to have an easier connection with the divine spirit and natural world.

Psychedelic drugs such as ayahuasca, mushrooms and yes even pot are really only to be used once to a few times in ones life, so that you can experience a reference point from which to create the same or similar experience on your own naturally within your body chemistry. And that is what Sting is talking about. Thank you god for leaving Stings quote in the film, other wise I may not have even been writing this review.

To conclude, as the Native American man said as the credits rolled.

“People will get. The idea of that new world, it’s already here.”

Electronic Awakenings

As a sound healer, being someone who understands how sound waves and vibrations are used as a tool for transformative healing I had to blog about this film, Electronic Awakening.

I have been to many weekly dance gathering such as, Dance Tribe, Dance Church, Sweat Your Prayers, Dancing Freedom, 5 Rhythms Dance, and Ecstatic Dance, all where you are provided a safe space to have a spiritual experience through dancing with yourself or with others. It's a place where you don't come to pick up on someone or dirty dance but a place to have an inner dance, or an open connected dance. The music that is played is from a myriad of genres and styles depending on the DJ. Though I have not experience a lot of the electronic music played at these dances I have experienced electronic music at festivals. Though I don't always connect with the raver electronic music I do connect with the community of dance as a spiritual practice.

Whether you dance at a festival or with a weekly group, to electronic or mellow music, DANCE! Dance to be free. Dance to connect. Dance to see. Listen to feel. Dance with the music.
Dance and see this film.
Create the positive shift through
Music.
Dance.
Community.

Enlightenment through HBO

The upcoming 10-10-11 energetic gateway is surely bringing big openings of change for our society. This is reflected in the 10-10-11 premier of the new HBO show Enlightened. The series centers around one women's self awakening after she has a blow up at work that causes her to go treatment in Hawaii where she meditates in order to find herself. After her retreat (treatment) she is able to go back to her old job in a lower position. She brings to the office a new found since of purpose, environmentalism and a passion for positive change. Though not everyone around her shares the same ideals, she sticks to living her new enlightened way of life.

Having gone through my own enlightenment process and still going through it with new levels, I can relate to this character. I've done what she does by coming home and telling her parents and friends how they can improve their lives whether they want to hear it or not. Though the show makes fun moments like those, it is important insight to learn from what most people go through in these situations. Most newly enlightened tend to be so excited and feel a since of responsibility to change the world that they share what they have learned with others before the recipient is ready to receive. Which can leave them frustrated and feeling alone in this new world. But when you find someone who is ready to understand the insights and teachings it can be a validating accomplishment.

The character not only reminds me of myself but of my friends within spiritual communities and festival scenes. We are able to have gratifying moments of meeting friends who are on similar enlightenment paths within certain communities and festivals. I feel this is where we are able to find others on our wavelength. Otherwise we are met with the people whom this character interacts with in her office; people not understanding or unwilling to change for the betterment of humanity and themselves.

This leaves us frustrated, not wanting to be in typical job situations. Yearning to do more for the planet and with ourselves, but not having the model in which to do it, therefore being looked at as crazy in the process. Welcome to enlightenment! For the real test of enlightenment isn't just the ability to center and find yourself but to hold your own knowingness of true self while others around you aren't.

And this is exactly what HBO has captured in Enlightenment.

Soul Surfer

I had been wanting to see the movie Soul Surfer since it came out in theaters and today I finally got the chance to watch it and I'm glad I did.
This film is based off of the true story of how Bethany Hamilton dealt with loosing her arm in a shark attack when she was 13.

It's beautiful to see someone who has lost something and yet has not lost their spirit, for she knows she is not this body. As you see in the movie through her love of God. Her faith and determination motivated her to get back out in the water and surf again.

This film is amazingly inspirational as you watch someone over come their fears through persistent passion. It is a great film to gain the feeling of Never Give Up from the heart and not from the ego.
Feel for yourself at itunes or other movie rental outlets :)

I also recommend watching this interview or any others with Bethany and the actress who portrayed her, AnnaSophia Robb.
